New Capital Requirements for Vanuatu Securities Dealers License
At the end of 2017, the Vanuatu Financial Services Commission (VFSC) raised capital requirements for all forex brokers holding a Vanuatu Securities Dealers license. Previously set at only $1,000, the amount was increased to $50,000.
This new policy has changed the perspective of Vanuatu as a cost effective jurisdiction for forex broker licenses. Yet even with the increase from $1,000 to $50,000, this still tends to be on the lower end when compared to Belize, for example, which now requires $500,000 in capital.
In addition to these new capital requirements, another challenge with a Vanuatu fx license is that banks, payment institutions and PSPs are becoming more cautious toward entities registered and even licensed in Vanuatu. Due to these challenges, brokers who are considering should keep some alternative jurisdictions in mind such as Labuan, Malaysia or a license in Mauritius.
Despite these challenges, from the perspective of credibility, a Vanuatu licensed broker still holds greater weight than an unlicensed, offshore broker. In fact, we still recommend obtaining some sort of license in order to prove credibility from unlicensed entities, which is just one of the benefits of having a forex broker license.
